Superpower: Rapidly deriving insights from data to develop effective fundraising strategies.
Vanessa is an experienced consultant who has worked with high-impact non-profit organizations in San Francisco, Boston and Denver for the past 15 years. At Black Fox Philanthropy, she works with clients to create fundraising strategies and build internal capacity for development and communications. In addition to serving as a project manager, she works extensively with boards of directors and leadership teams to increase their comfort and familiarity with fundraising.
After working as a strategy consultant for Bain & Company, Vanessa began her fundraising career at the University of California, San Francisco Foundation, where she worked with the Board of Directors and staffed UCSF’s $1.7 billion capital campaign. Since that time, Vanessa has enjoyed opportunities to grow and enhance development programs in a wide range of settings, including Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Tipping Point Community in San Francisco. Before returning to consulting full-time, Vanessa most recently served as Vice President of Advancement at First Place for Youth, an organization serving current and former foster youth throughout California.
Vanessa has worked with organizations creating social impact through education, the arts, economic empowerment and services for children, youth and families. Some of her recent work has served the Colorado Education Initiative, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, the San Francisco Office of Financial Empowerment and Upwardly Global. Vanessa serves on the luncheon committee for the Women’s Foundation of Colorado and volunteers for the Institute for Leaders in Development as well as for her children’s schools in Denver.
